Bell Temple was pleased to have Marla Warner join us for a Zoom webinar on June 28, 2021 where she focused on managing mental health in the context of the pandemic.
Marla is a speaker, facilitator, consultant and coach whose focus is individual and workplace well-being and productivity. COVID-19 has affected every aspect of the lives of legal professionals, including mental health. According to the Canadian Mental Health Association, a recent survey conducted by Nielsen Consumer Insights shows that:
- 38% of Canadians say their mental health has declined due to COVID-19;
- People already struggling with their mental health were twice as likely to say their mental health has declined due to the pandemic;
- 83% of Canadians now say they are comfortable speaking with others about mental health, compared to only 42% in 2012.
Marla provided an overview of the facts of mental illness and the impact that COVID-19 has had on our collective mental health. She helped to increase familiarity with the most common mental health concerns in Canada; specifically those in the legal profession. She provided guidance to understanding stigma and the impact it has on accessing support. Most importantly, Marla provided ideas and tools on how we can mitigate stress, develop empathy and resilience and find new ways of coping and how to support one another.
Thank you Marla!
